Westchester Senior NewsWhite Plains, NY - Legal experts will give advice on Medicare, estate planning and elder law, among other topics, at the 8th annual Senior Law Day program Nov. 2 at the Yorktown Senior Nutrition Center, 1874 Commerce St.

The program will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, and is open to seniors, adult children, caregivers and professionals who work with mature adults. Leading elder law attorneys and professionals from various fields will lead the sessions. In addition, there will be free, 15-minute legal consultations; space is limited so it’s first-come, first-served.

Senior Law Day is sponsored by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, Inc.

County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz, who will open the program, urged seniors to attend. “As a county legislator as well as a certified financial planner and an attorney, I understand how important it is for seniors to get good advice,” said Kaplowitz, whose district includes Yorktown, Somers and New Castle. “Senior Law Day provides an outstanding opportunity for seniors to learn their rights to make themselves as knowledgeable and financially secure as they can.”

Workshops will be held on “The Impact of the New Medicaid Rules,” “Estate Planning/Elder Law 101” and “The Doctor Says You Can Go Home – Now What?  Negotiating Care During and After a Hospital Stay.”

DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter said the Senior Law Day programs are among the best-attended events the department offers. “Since Senior Law Day began, we’ve helped more than 2,000 seniors learn about their rights,” Carpenter said. “This program is not to be missed.”

To register for the program and sign up for the free consultation, call (914) 962-7447 by Oct. 30.
