Want to get in the holiday spirit? The Annual Katonah-Lewisboro Community Christmas Concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. at the South Salem Presbyterian Church. An exciting group of talented local performers have been diligently rehearsing for this annual event!

Renee Purse and Donald MacDonald, architects for the onsite expansion of the Lewisboro Library slated to start this spring, came before the Town Board on Nov. 19 to ask permission to set aside several parking spaces at the rear of the building for the use of contractors, mostly during the day. The spaces will be needed to house construction equipment and supplies while the work is going on.

The Lewisboro Sustainability Advisory Committee and Transition Westchester present the documentary "In Transition 2.0" on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m., at the Goldens Bridge Community Center (Parks & Recreation Office) at 65 Old Bedford Road.

"Wild turkeys are very tricky to raise," Jenny Tkacz said. A resident of the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River for more than 21 years and an avid animal lover, she hosts a variety of pets, ranging from your standard house variety to a speckled owl, horses and ponies, and in years past even a peacock.

Lewisboro's trees have taken a horrible beating over the past 15 months.

Starting out with Hurricane Irene and the late October blizzard last year and moving on to historic Hurricane Sandy last month, many large specimen trees and their owners have been devastated by the impact of the successive storms.

"Sooner or later, the town is going to have to face the facts," town Highway Superintendent Peter Ripperger told The Ledger.

"If the Town Board does not vote to replace the motor equipment operator our department lost last year and also make needed repairs to our equipment, Lewisboro residents will have an overextended, undermanned department that may not be able to perform effectively over the coming winter."

Old laws are colliding with new practices in communities, particularly in Westchester County and urban areas, where old traditions of sustainable and low-scale agriculture are being re-embraced by everyday people.

Despite the debate over whether to vote to override the state's 2% cap on the increase in the 2013 town budget, Town Board members face a simple and harsh reality.

"Employee benefits, including health care and retirement, will alone account for an approximately 7% rise in town taxes for next year," Town Supervisor Peter Parsons told The Ledger on Monday.

Jill Proskin of Cross River will appear on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on Thursday, Nov. 29 as part of the show's "Double Your Money Week." The show can be seen on ABC, Channel 7, at 12:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Contestants have a chance to double the money attached to any single randomly selected question in the first round of the game during this week.

The Lewisboro Parks and Recreation Department is holding Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 8, in the John Jay High School cafeteria from 9 to 11 a.m.
